NEWSLETTER - SPRING 2009
SECOND QUARTER. Enclosed with this newsletter is the maintenance assessment reminder for the Second quarter of 2009, which is due on or before April 1st.
ANNUAL MEETING. To comply with our Bylaws, the Annual Meeting and the Director’s Organizational Meeting was held on February 27, 2009 in the Tamarind Clubhouse. Thank you to all that attended. If you will recall only one candidate intent letter, from a current Board Member, was received for two open seats on the Board. Per 2008 Legislation if no election can be held, then the current Board Members automatically retain their seats and must resign if they do not want to continue to serve.
The required Directors Organizational Meeting was held immediately following the Annual Meeting and resulted in the following roster of officers for 2009.

2009 PROJECTS
POOL PROJECT
The pool will close on April 27 and will remain closed until the project is complete, with the goal of reopening before the Memorial Day weekend.
The swimming pool must undergo an extensive rehab this year. The interior of the pool received a liquid seal coating 7 years ago, which was the first investment in the pool in several years. The seal coating’s useful life has passed and we are now experiencing water penetration through the Marcite finish which if allowed to continue could threaten the integrity of the entire pool. Since we are a commercial property we are subject to biannual inspections by Charlotte County, who have hinted for a couple of years that the surface of the pool needs attention. We are also experiencing “pie crusting” of the cool deck surface surrounding the pool which has resulted in constant and continuous maintenance. The surface has become slick and hazardous due to years of accumulated painting.
SCOPE: The pool will be drained and Marcite removed. Existing tile will be removed and replaced according to current Code. A new quartz plaster finish will be installed over a new epoxy mortar surface. The ladders and drain covers will be replaced as needed to meet current Code. The deck will receive new color variegated pool brick pavers smoothly transitioning to the existing concrete walkways adjacent to the pool compound. This project will be a major update to the pool area and another great enhancement to the appearance of the property.
DRIVEWAY PROJECT
The driveway and parking area will be recoated and restriped this summer. We will be using a polypetrol resin in place of the typical coal tar based coating in an attempt to reduce the “track off” that we are currently experiencing resulting in the staining of our entrances, hallways and residence floors. This will extend the life of our asphalt surface for a few more years and give this area a fresh and neat appearance.
LANDSCAPE PROJECT Phase 4 of the 5-phase landscape project will continue this summer. The balance of Phase 4 includes the replacement of selected shrubs and installing rubber mulch in the back and or side of the buildings facing the bayside courtyard and the backside of building D1 which faces the bay. Hopefully we will be able to complete phase 4 this summer, however money is always the obstacle. Phase 5 of the project to begin in 2010 will consist of revisiting of a few areas previously passed over and reviewing areas that have already been done and add or remove plantings as needed which finish the landscaping as a project.
So as you can see it will be another busy summer at Tamarind in an effort to continually improve and maintain the common areas of the Association.
DEPARTING
When the Island is quiet and the sewer pipes are empty the rodents will play…. When leaving to protect against rodent infiltration make certain to place cellophane over your toilet stool, close the lid and place a weighted object on the lid. It is also recommended that you have someone enter and inspect your unit on a regular basis during long periods of absence in the summer months. Please remember to remove your furniture from your lanai and roof decks as they become torpedoes during high winds.
PETS
This in an excerpt from the last news letter since some apparently failed to read it
“The Association office is receiving complaints that some owners are not “picking up” after their pets and are allowing them out on the grounds without a leash. This is absolutely against the Rules of the Association and needless to say disrespectful to your neighbors. Careless and selfish pet owners are what have led most Condo Associations to ban pets entirely. Pick up after your pet and keep them on a leash at all times.”
The Directors and the Office are still receiving complaints that owners are allowing their pets (cats & dogs) to roam the property without a leash and in some cases unaccompanied or their pet is on a leash but the owner is allowing it to jump on other unappreciative residents. Please do not force the Board to take legal action or worse have another resident have a serious injury due to a fall because you didn’t control your pet.
WEBSITE The new Association website although not completely done is “online” and can be viewed. All of the Association Rules & Regulations can be view on the website as well as Newsletters going back to 2004 to the present. The Boat slip reservation system is unfortunately not complete and operational as of this writing, but you will find a greatly enhanced system and when complete, unlike the previous site, will be very user friendly.
Have a great spring season.
